World Food Prize Foundation Announces Leadership Changes

Today, the World Food Prize Foundation announced that Ambassador Terry Branstad will retire as President on January 31, 2025, and Foundation Chief Operating Officer Mashal Husain will become President. In addition, the Foundation will conduct a global search for a newly created chief executive role focused on organizational leadership and global diplomacy.

Branstad has led the Foundation since February 2023, guiding its mission to recognize and advance achievements in global food security inspired by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. Norman E. Borlaug. Branstad’s tenure has been marked by a commitment to deepening the Foundation’s impact across generations, industries and borders.

Branstad has a long history with the Foundation, including leading efforts with the Ruan family to relocate it to Iowa, the birthplace of Dr. Borlaug. While Governor of Iowa, Branstad championed the Foundation from its early days, with its emphasis on youth in STEM in Iowa.
